Radiation therapy is used to treat various gynecological cancers. While there is currently little use of radiation therapy in the management of ovarian cancer, there is a very important role for radiation therapy for cervical, uterine (endometrial) and vulvar cancers. Radiation therapy may be used following surgery to help prevent the cancer from coming back or it may be used as the primary treatment for patients who cannot have surgery because of other health problems or because of the size or location of the cancer.

The technologies available at The Cancer Center at Lake City that are used to treat these cancers include Varian IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy), and HDR (High Dose Brachytherapy). Depending on the specific disease, a combination of these technologies may be used.
